La Transcending Obscurity è un’etichetta alla quale noi di MetalEyes siamo particolarmente affezionati: intanto perché, quando abbiamo iniziato ad occuparci di metal qualche anno fa, ancora all’interno di In Your Eyes, la label indiana è stata una delle prime a darci credito senza farsi troppe domande su chi fossimo o quanti contatti facessimo, e poi, soprattutto, perché colui che ne regge fila, Kunal Choksi, è uno di quei personaggi che dovrebbero essere clonati per tutto quello che ha fatto e sta facendo per la diffusione del verbo metallico in Asia.
Dopo questo doveroso panerigico nei confronti del dinamico discografico di Mumbai, non resta che invitare ogni appassionato di metal che si rispetti a fare propria questa esaustiva compilation contenente un brano di ciascuna delle band appartenenti alla scuderia delle Transcending Obscurity, tanto più che il tutto è scaricabile gratuitamente dal bandcamp.
Lì troviamo cinquantacinque tracce che offrono contributi provenienti da nomi già noti ed altri ancora da scoprire, abbracciando tutti i generi estremi, a partire soprattutto dal death metal, spesso rappresentato nella sua versione old schol, passando per il black ed il doom, con qualche sconfinamento nel thrash, nello stoner/sludge e nel più tradizionale heavy metal.
Molti di questi brani fanno parte di album che abbiamo avuto il piacere di recensire, quasi tutti accompagnati da valutazioni lusinghiere, segno di un roster dal livello medio molto elevato, benché composto per lo più da realtà dalla notorietà confinata all’underground.
Quasi superfluo segnalare uno o l’altro brano, si può solo aggiungere che per chi ama il death c’è da sbizzarrirsi, tra i Paganizer dell’onnipresente Rogga Johnasson, i Sepulchral Curse e gli storici Warlord UK, per i death/doomsters le icone Officium Triste e Mythological Cold Towers e i più recenti Chalice of Suffering e Illimitable Dolor, mentre per chi predilige sonorità più distorte e stonate ci sono gli Altar Of Betelgeuze, gli Algoma e i The Whorehouse Massacre e per i blacksters realtà stimolanti come i Norse, i Seedna ed i Somnium Nox, tutto questo senza voler fare alcun torto a chi non è stato citato.
Infine, questa compilation offre la possibilità anche ai più scettici di farsi un’idea di quale sia il livello raggiunto dalle band asiatiche, autrici spesso di opere di livello pari, se non superiori, a quelle dei corrispettivi europei od americani: cito tra queste i “vedic metallers” Rudra, i Grossty, i Dormant Inferno ed i Darkrypt (da notare che la sezione asiatica è facilmente individuabile essendo stata racchiusa negli ultimi quindici brani).
Quindi, cliccando il link che troverete in calce all’articolo, avrete la ghiotta opportunità di fare un bel giro metallico del globo, gentilmente offerto da Kunal Choksi e dalla sua Transcending Obscurity.
