Hailing from the barren wasteland of Finland, Church of Void is a five men doom rock band. Founded in 2010 by vocalist Magus Corvus and G. Funeral (Ex-Horna, Battlelore), the band’s first sign of life was the limited run EP ‘Winter Is Coming’. With a 2013 LP, released by Finland´s own Svart Records, and a handful of split releases, the band have found a new home in Italian Argonauta Records. The band’s 13th album, and 8th since the act were reborn in 2002, this album features the line-up of Lundin, accompanied by Per Nilsson (Scar Symmetry), Morgan Ågren (Karmakanic), Jonas Reingold (The Flower Kings, Karmakanic), Patrik Lundström (Ritual) & Aleena Gibson, plus a guest appearance from violinist Elin Rubinsztein.
Hans comments: “In November 2014 when I was still filled with all the energy I had captured during the summer I started to write the new songs. What really made me push the start button this time was a magic spirit that filled my whole body after visiting a concert with Morgan Ågren and his band ‘Mats & Morgan Band’. I woke up the morning after the concert and still felt that enormous groove filling every part of my consciousness. I realized that I had to canalize all this energy somewhere so I decided to start to write some new music. I had also found a lot of inspiration from the long bicycle rides that I made during the summer in the open land-scape around Uppsala. It was like if the notes were rising up from the billowing fields I passed and the words were falling like raindrops from the clear sky. So now I suddenly had found the key to open up all these ideas that had been slumbering at the back of my mind for a while. All the beauty and the wondrous inspiration from nature in combination with this “enormous groove” made me create five long songs during the next months.”

The result is as colourful musically and lyrically as Kaipa devotees will expect from the band’s rich discography dating back to the debut opus released in 1975. Formed in 1973, Kaipa never shied away from experimentation, embracing fresh elements and sounds manifesting especially on the albums released in the 2000’s. ‘Children Of The Sounds’ is no exception, the album burns with creative fervour and spirit most vividly displayed on the title track, the 17 minutes long ‘On The Edge Of New Horizons’ or closing track ‘What’s Behind The Fields’. It embodies a powerful, positive energy and artistic brilliance that is irresistible and true to the genre’s very essence.

I CALIGULA’S HORSE, progressive band australiana, sono in procinto di pubblicare il nuovo album “In Contact”, in arrivo il 15 settembre 2017 su InsideOut. La band ha pubblicato il 4 agosto il singolo “Will’s Song (Let The Colours Run)” e oggi ne presenta il video, diretto dal chitarrista Adrian Goleby.

Vocalist Jim Grey explains: “The story of ‘Will’s Song’ is centred around pride and ambition, the human tendency toward self-destruction, the last demand of a proud old man that time is not decay and he is ‘that young man still’.” Goleby has mirrored this in the clouded performances, obscured figures either silhouetted in smoke and colourful light or dissolving into nothing, and the frenetic visuals truly capture the kinetic energy of the song.

The clip was filmed in Northgate, Brisbane as well as the heritage listed (built in 1888) Princess Theatre in Woolloongabba, Brisbane.

Drummer Josh Griffin had this to say:
“With this video being mine and Adrian’s first clip with Caligula’s Horse, it’s great to finally have the new line up out there!”

Guitarist Sam Vallen adds:
“Will’s Song might take some fans by surprise, its heavy and technical, certainly more than anything we’ve created in the past. Adrian has done an incredible job conveying that frenetic power in the clip; it captures the energy we aspire to in concert, but also, through its languid and constantly shifting imagery, reinforces the dark atmosphere hidden below the punctuation of the drums and guitars. Speaking of which, check out the drums and guitar! It’s great to show the new guys off to the world at last.”

As with the band’s acclaimed album ‘Bloom’ before it, ‘In Contact’ sees vocalist Jim Grey and lead guitarist Sam Vallen collaborating closely on the music and lyrics. Vallen comments: “In our creative process every idea is scrutinized, deconstructed, and rebuilt in a way that one of us, alone, could never achieve. We’re one another’s harshest critic, but fortunately we’ve done this for long enough now that our inspiration draws us in a similar direction – we can finish each other’s musical sentences, so to speak. And we’re lucky that’s the case, since In Contact proved to be a much more ambitious undertaking than anything we’d conceived of in the past.”

Vocalist Jim Grey adds: “In Contact has been an enormous proposition – the stories told in this album feel deeply personal, and we’ve never been more excited to share a new work with the world. The sounds on this album are dark and adventurous – but without losing the bittersweet and joyful sounds we developed in writing Bloom.”

As with the band’s second album ‘The Tide, the Thief & River’s End’, the band decided to hang a concept around the entire record, taking it in a direction that would end up being the opposite of its predecessor. “We decided to create a concept album, but one that came from a more personal place: one that would facilitate our creative needs wherever the journey took us” Vallen continues. “The broader concept is based around the nature of art – of what it is that sparks creativity and inspiration, a celebration of what connects us as human beings, the shared space across our many differences.”

Taking in four separate chapters, each one is dedicated to an individual and their own personal journey and how they express themselves through art. “Each of these artists are reaching for something more in their lives, and while disconnected entirely from one another, they are united by that reach: for a better life, but also for something intangible.”

Written between late 2016 and May 2017, the album went through a rapid production/mixing/mastering process encompassing five weeks between May and June. The music felt fresh and the ideas were captured at the peak of their vitality. The music on ‘In Contact’ stretched all of the bands abilities, from the frantic speed and complexity of ‘Will’s Song (Let the Colours Run)’ to the immense scope and variety of the 16-minute album closer, ‘Graves’. This is Caligula’s Horse at their most ambitious and progressive.

Le icone inglesi del progressive THRESHOLD pubblicheranno il loro nuovo album “Legends Of The Shires” l’8 settembre su Nuclear Blast. In attesa di quest’uscita, la band è orgogliosa di presentare in anteprima il nuovo fantastico video, realizzato per la canzone ‘Small Dark Lines’. Il video è stato diretto da Sitcom Soldiers LTD, che ha sviluppato un’intrigante narrazione che coinvolge persone di estrazione diversa, le quali dipingono i propri corpi per simboleggiare i rimpianti della loro vita. Dell’acqua poi cade su di loro e lava via le linee, proprio come quando si cancella una lavagna.

Per quanto riguarda la canzone e il video, Karl Groom ha commentato: “Quelli di Sitcom Soldiers hanno craeto la giusta atmosfera nel nostro video ed è stato piacevole filmarlo. Siamo riusciti a trovare alcune eccellenti comparse e le abbiamo torturate con docce gelate. È fantastico avere di nuovo Glynn nella band: in ‘Small Dark Lines’ mostra tutta la sua potenza e versatilità. Gli Omega sono una band italiana formata da membri già attivi da anni sulla scena con altri progetti (Deadly Carnage, Hanging Garden, Nostaglie, Ashes of Chaos) fautori di un incrocio tra Atmospheric Black, Doom e Dark Ambient. Hanno pubblicato su You Tube il trailer del loro album d’esordio “Eve” in uscita il 1 Ottobre su Dusktone (www.dusktone.eu).

“Eve” è un concept basato sul manoscritto Voynich, scritto probabilmente del XIV secolo, viene considerato il libro più misterioso del mondo.

Le leggende del black metal SATYRICON pubblicheranno il loro attesissimo nono album ‘Deep calleth upon Deep’ il 22 settembre su Napalm Records. Il disco sarà disponibile in digitale, CD digipack e vinile gatefold ed è pre-ordinabile QUI.

Oggi l’iconico duo guidato dal visionario Satyr pubblica il lyric video e il singolo della title track.
Satyr dichiara: “Non è stato facile scegliere una canzone che rappresentasse questo disco, poiché sono molto diverse le une dalle altre. Le considero tutte come un gruppo di individui con personalità forti e uniche e insieme danno vita all’album ‘Deep calleth upon Deep’.

La title track è l’unica canzone che ho composto con la baritona e la chitarra normale. Mi sembrava che ci fosse bisogno di una tonalità più bassa per potenziare il groove nelle parti più pesanti. Ci sono anche mellotron, violoncello, violino e i cori del cantante classico Håkon Kornstad, là dove il violoncello sostiene la chitarra baritona, il violino e i cori danno ampiezza e ariosità al suono. Consideratela una sorta di viaggio, suonatela ad alto volume, chiudete gli occhi e incamminatevi nella foresta. Questo è ciò che faccio io”.

Registrato a Oslo (Norvegia) e Vancouver (Canada) a inizio 2017 e mixato con il rinomato guru Mike Fraser (che aveva già lavorato sull’album del 2006 dei SATYRICON, ‘Now, Diabolical’), ‘Deep Calleth Upon Deep’ non è solo una nuova collezione di canzoni di una delle più longeve e credibili band di musica estrema: esso rappresenta una completa reinvenzione e un’era nuova di zecca nella storia dei SATYRICON. Deep Calleth Upon Deep’ è una profonda dichiarazione inerente l’essenza della musica dei SATYRICON e del valore eterno dell’arte stessa.

I SATYRICON sono sempre stati un’eccellente live band. Le loro evocative esibizioni sono diventate eventi speciali tanto che la loro frequenza si adatta al nuovo modus operandi del gruppo di Oslo. La band sarà presto in tour in Europa per presentare ‘Deep Calleth Upon Deep’. L’unica data italiana è fissata il 7 ottobre a Zona Roveri, Bologna.

ENSLAVED – ecco il video del primo singolo ‘Storm Son’

Gli avanguardisti norvegesi ENSLAVED pubblicheranno il loro nuovo epico album in studio “E” il 13 ottobre 2017. Il quattordicesimo disco della loro carriera segna l’inizio di un nuovo capitolo della loro storia.
Il video del primo singolo ‘Stom Son’, nei suoi dieci minuti di durata, mescola mesmerizzante prog con del frastornante metal estremo e un’atmosfera folk.
Il video è stato realizzato da Josh Graham, conosciuto per avere collaborato, tra gli altri, con SOUNDGARDEN e NEUROSIS.

“‘Storm Son’ parla del dualismo uomo-natura e di quanto sia importante questa relazione”, spiega il compositore e chitarrista Ivar. “Tutto ciò che facciamo e creiamo è un’imitazione della natura. Noi ci siamo evoluti da essa, anche se l’uomo moderno pensa di essere indipendente dalla natura, di esserle così superiore da non doverla prendere in considerazione, come se fosse uno scenario di un film di merda, o di un festival. Perdere il contatto con la natura significa perdere il contatto con l’essere umano”.

Gli Stoner Desert Rockers italiani RANCHO BIZZARRO pubblicano il video del primo singolo “Garage Part Two”, tratto dal nuovo album omonimo fuori durante l’Autunno 2017 su ARGONAUTA Records.

I RANCHO BIZZARRO sono il nuovo progetto di Izio Orsini, che dopo il debutto “Weedooism” a nome Bantoriak (il nuovo album uscirà nel 2018), ha deciso di dare vita a una nuova band, un quartetto strumentale formato da due chitarre (Matteo Micheli e Marco Gambicorti), basso (Izio Orsini) e batteria (Federico Melosi), con chiare influenze Stoner Desert Rock.

L’idea originale nasce da jam in sala prove, poi arrangiate in studio con un suono anni ’70 e tra le influenze possiamo annoverare Brant Bjork, MC5, Black Sabbath.

“In Deep and Wooded Forests of My Youth” finds Vera pleading with Thanos to save the forest from his brother Sindr, who plans to harvest the magical energy found in the deep Fens of Axen. Band members Sam Meador, Matthew Earl, and Ali Meador are featured in this video filmed, directed, and produced by Brent Vallefuoco.
